Cost of a CLICK !

Lima sat in a dimly lit living room last night, surrounded by cardboard boxes which hadn’t yet recycled, when Netflix’s “Buy Now” began playing on the screen. Two hours later, she found herself staring at her reflection in the black mirror of  TV, tears welling up in her eyes. Never had she felt so seen – and so ashamed.

The Moment Everything Changed – Lima used to be a one with shopping apps lined up like soldiers on phone’s home screen. The one who knew exactly when each online store would drop their new collections. The one who felt that little surge of joy every time a delivery notification pinged. “Your package has arrived!” was her favorite melody.
But as she watched “Buy Now,” that melody started to sound more like a funeral dirge.

The True Cost of  Clicks
The documentary hit her like a punch to the gut when it showed the journey of a simple t-shirt that could have easily ordered. The cotton fields drinking up precious water in drought-stricken regions. The young factory workers in dimly lit rooms, their fingers calloused from meeting impossible quotas. The endless convoy of delivery trucks spewing exhaust into already polluted air. All so she could wear something “new” to next week’s brunch.

The Algorithm That Knew us Too Well
“They know what you want,”   The documentary’s deep dive into the psychology of online shopping made you realize you weren’t making choices – you were being chosen for. Those “specially curated” recommendations weren’t helpful suggestions; they were digital strings pulling you deeper into a web of mindless consumption.

The Surprising Joy of Less –
Here’s what no one tells you about breaking free from compulsive shopping: the relief is immense. The bank account is healthier, yes, but so is mind. Pleasure of owning things that last, of being content with enough.

A Letter to My Fellow Shoppers
If you, like Lima, have ever felt that gnawing emptiness that no purchase could fill, I urge you to watch “Buy Now.” Not to feel guilty – we’ve all been there – but to feel empowered. Every time we resist an impulse buy, we’re casting a vote for the world we want to live in.

The New Normal
These days, when I feel the itch to shop, I remind myself of the real cost behind every “Buy Now” button. I think of the workers, the resources, the waste. And most times, the itch fades, replaced by gratitude for what I already have. Track the number of unused sandals, under utilized clothing sets, gadgets…where will all these end up???? Future generations ? Nope…Future is not far … it’s your tomorrow

Think twice, buy once – because Earth doesn’t do returns.
