This marks my first week in Pune, the Oxford of the East / Queen of the Deccan. The weather is pleasant, especially for someone who comes from the seashore… no sticky humidity, no sweating by 9 am, just cool mornings and breezy evenings. The city has its own pace. It’s busy, still calm too.
Every change and every new place starts the inertia, as I call it… New roads, new faces, new routine, and in process of figuring out where the good coffee is! As it happens, anxiety pitches in as a side effect! Spilled the coffee on the very first day.
Psychologists tag this as the spotlight effect. Our brain assumes that everyone around us is watching, as if we are the odd one out, and this creates a fight or flight response. But in reality, no one actually cared about my spilled coffee as much as my brain portrayed! So what did I do? Asked a dumb question… “Bhaiyya,Where is the tissue?” when it was right there in front of me 😅. How did I get over it ? Just wiped it out…
It’s okay to be dumb at times for it takes away the pressure that we fill ourselves with. Reset yourself free from your own expectations at times… After all, you are human. Fail fast, learn fast… that’s the name of the game!!!
So the coffee got spilled, the floor got wiped, and life moved on. Day two, I held my cup a little tighter and smiled a little wider 🙂 reminded of my coffee mates teasing me back then. One week down, many more to go, and I’m slowly finding my rhythm here.
Dedicating to my coffee mates 🙂 miss you all !
